Transformation de la phase solide à travers l’estuaire de la Loire en relation avec son environnement chimique et biologique ArchiMer
Thibault De Chanvalon, Aubin.
Before reaching the ocean, riverine particles from the Loire watershed undergo important chemical transformations in the estuary. This study aims to identify and characterize main processes involving iron (and to a lesser extent Al, Mn, PO4 3- and rare earths elements). Suspended particulate matter data show that 15% of their iron is lost through the estuary. Reductive iron dissolution during deposition periods is likely to explain most of this loss. However, estuarine sediments are characterized by high spatial heterogeneity due to macrofaunal activities. To overcome this difficulty, new methodologies of high resolution and two-dimensional analyses and calculation of pore water, sediment and benthic meiofauna were developed. These developments enable to...

Triceratium moreirae sp. nov. and Triceratium dubium (Triceratiaceae - Bacillariophyta) from estuarine environments of Southern Brazil, with comments on the genus Triceratium C. G. Ehrenberg BJB
FERNANDES,L. F.; SOUZA-MOSIMANN,R. M. de.
A new species of Triceratiaceae is described for estuarine environments of Southern Brazil. The valve of Triceratium moreirae sp. nov. is triangular with elevations bearing ocellus and a rimoportula in their basis. The valvar surface has robust pseudoloculi, circular to polygonal, each one confining a group of areolae arranged in a typical pattern. A central larger areola is surrounded by 5-8 smaller areolae, and they are poroidal with domed cribra. A septum emerges from the valvocopula, having the base reinforced by ribs and the margins folded to the innerside of the valve. The new species is compared to the closely related diatom Triceratium dubium, which has the same pattern of areolar disposition, formation of septum and pseudoloculi. The main...

Zooplankton metabolism in South African estuaries: does habitat type influence ecological strategies? ArchiMer
Tagliarolo, Morgana; Porri, F; Garvie, C D; Lechman, K; Scharler, U M.
Zooplankton community composition, biomass and metabolism can vary drastically over space and time in subtropical estuaries. Changing environmental conditions can affect communities differently, depending on the characteristics of the species involved. In the present study, we compared the rates of oxygen consumption of the dominant zooplankton taxa living in permanently open and in temporally open/closed estuaries. The metabolic response was tested at four temperatures experienced by the animals in their natural environment. Zooplankton from the temporally open/closed estuary showed low activation energies and low rate of metabolism at the highest temperature tested. Animals from the permanently open estuary had higher respiration rates at increased...

δ15N of organic matter sources and benthic invertebrates along an estuarine gradient in Marennes-Oleron bay (France): implications for the study of trophic structure ArchiMer
Riera, Pascal.
This study examined the delta(15)N of suspended and sedimented particulate organic matter, primary sources of organic matter and benthic invertebrates along an estuarine gradient in Marennes-Oleron Bay, France. Particular emphasis was given to the use of delta(15)N as a tracer of the origin of organic matter and as a means of determining the benthic food web structure in estuarine environments. delta(15)N values indicated that there was direct utilisation of benthic diatoms as a food source by oyster Crassostrea gigas near intertidal mudflats but suggested trophic mediation between terrestrial detritus and oysters in the upper estuarine reaches. delta(15)N data showed that the trophic position of oysters may vary in the estuarine bay. The delta(15)N values...

Особенности термохалинных параметров и ихтиоцена эстуария реки Чёрная (Севастопольская бухта) IBSS Repository
Карпова, Е. П.; Болтачёв, А. Р.; Данилюк, О. Н..
